Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months in jail by the Delhi High Court in a cheque bounce case. The court cited Yadav's repeated failure to honour settlement commitments.
Rajpal Yadav, a well-known face in Bollywood, has found himself in a spot of trouble. The Delhi High Court has sentenced him to three months in jail in a cheque bounce case. The verdict was delivered by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma in a batch of seven cases filed by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited.
Repeated Defaults Lead to Jail Term
The court observed that Yadav had repeatedly failed to honour settlement commitments made before the court. Despite several opportunities and assurances, Yadav failed to clear the outstanding dues. The court ordered Yadav to pay Rs 1.05 crore in each of the seven cases. His wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, was also directed to pay a fine of more than ₹5 lakh in each matter.
A Long-Standing Legal Dispute
The legal dispute dates back to 2024 when Yadav was convicted in a cheque bounce case and sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The Delhi High Court had later suspended that sentence, and the matter was referred to the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre. However, despite multiple adjournments and repeated assurances, the settlement did not materialise.
Yadav's Surrender and Interim Relief
In February 2026, the High Court directed Yadav to surrender before jail authorities after finding that he had failed to comply with its earlier directions. Yadav eventually surrendered on February 5 and remained in custody until he was granted interim suspension of sentence after depositing Rs 1.5 crore with the complainant.
Yadav has been granted two months to challenge the order before a higher court.
